A WORD FROM ANNE — OUR CHAIRMAN

Here we go again with our third addition of the T.A.S. news magazine and this as you know is a special year for us, as it is our thirty-fifth anniversary. We now have a membership of eighty-five people and already have a waiting list for new members.

Yorkshire View Photo: Anne Hamerton

On August 2nd 2004, eleven of us went to Giggleswick in Yorkshire, stayed for four nights and had a wonderful time, so much so they want to go back again next year. At the same time Claire Palmer organised a painting day out at Ashlett Creek for those who didn’t go to Yorkshire. We also had an award made to celebrate our thirty-fifth year and this is to be presented to the artist whose painting is voted for by visitors at our Summer Exhibition. Sandra Cavill with her painting of Ann’s dogs was the first winner. She will now keep the award until the Summer Exhibition in 2005.

Reg Whiting Photo: Di Aalexander

Our preview night this year was a very special night with a lovely atmosphere. Ruth Edwards our president opened it with a speech. Reg Whiting who was the founder member of the society officially opened the exhibition. He was presented with a bouquet of flowers for his wife Joan, who had gone into hospital that very day. We also showed Reg the Award that is named after him. He responded by giving us an insight into the beginnings of the Society and some of its early characters. To end with, we presented Ruth with an Honorary Membership certificate to commemorate all she has done for the society. The exhibition this year was once again a real success, with a total of sixty-two paintings sold. This is nearly double last year figure. Well done everyone, and happy painting.
