GORDON LANGLEY MY FAVOURITE SUBJECTS It is enjoyable to paint most subjects. landscapes come high on my list of favourites, especially scenes that incorporate coastal features. Buildings, especially in the warmer parts of Europe, are always fascinating to paint with their vibrant colours. Although there are also some with lovely pastel shades. In Britain’s towns and cities, many wonderful buildings provide a challenge in perspective, texture and tone. Having sketched and painted these interesting subjects, many memories are revived of interesting days out. The subject I enjoy painting most of all is: ‘Sprit Sail Barges’ i.e. Thames sailing barges. Seeing these wonderful vessels gliding in full sail in a sure, calm way across the water, is an unforgettable sight—such assurance and stability. The wonderful browns and reds of the sails contrast with the black of the hull, yet are in perfect harmony. The sails always are a challenge, with the many different tones of colour due to the wind pushing them into wonderful curves. It does not matter what type of sky, the sailing barge is always in harmony with nature—it is always my number one subject! Gordon Langley T.A.S. Deputy Treasurer |

THE 2005/6 PROGRAMMET.A.S. Programme Manager Claire Palmer has arranged a fabulous programme this year. High-profile artists Miles Baker, Roy Lang, Claire Kitcher, Soroya French, Andy Michaelsmith and Helen Talbot usually charge around £95 per evening (some charge more). We are so lucky to be able to see their demonstrations at no extra charge. Special thanks to Anne and Claire for providing overnight accommodation to two artists, and congratulations to Claire on coming up with another wonderful programme. |
