THE HANGING COMMITTEE

"It's the best we've ever had" and "It gets better every year" - just some of the comments we hear every year at exhibition time and it is true! The pictures entered this year were brilliant with so much variation and colour. So much thought and effort went into the paintings and, as always, it was a pleasure to hang them. Congratulations and thanks to everyone who contributed and took part and to all the committee who worked so hard in all the planning and organising, etc. to make it a successful and enjoyable event for everyone. Mary and I also thank Harry Yearsley, Pat Scammell and Mike Wheeler-Osman for their help in hanging the pictures and for joining our team.

Until now, Mary and I have done the hanging with help from whoever was available, over the past years; but now, with so many extra pictures to hang - owing to the many members we now have in the society, we've decided to form a proper hanging committee of five people.

We were pleased when Harry, Pat and Mike accepted our invitation to join us and hope that they will have as many hours of enjoyment ('tho hard work) as Mary and I have had hanging and arranging all the pictures to their best advantage (e.g. taking into account the balance of tones, shapes, sizes and best light to display them). Mary and I had a rule not to hang our own pictures and this will continue with the rest of our team. We hope that if you have any problems or queries regarding picture hanging, you will bring them to us and we'll do all we can to help and explain. I hope the next exhibition we have will be as successful and enjoyable as the past ones have been.
