THE CHALLENGE

The scene for this year's August art challenge was a picture of rock pools on a beach provided by Claire Palmer, who took part, but not as a competitor for the £20 prize.

Claire normally takes at least 3 hours to do a painting, so had to work faster than normal.

Ann Gates

Anne Gates had a harder task with oils, although she began by 'blocking in' with colour on a yellow primed canvas.
She worked surprisingly quickly, but had to concentrate extremely hard with all the chatting around her, and did not find it as enjoyable as usual.

Winning Painting by Anne Gates

Members voted by ballot for the painting that they liked best and Anne Gates was declared the winner with her colourful yet faithful version of the scene.

Glennis Courtney, on the other hand, who is used to working 'fast and loose', dressed the part in striped top and black beret and had fun, although even she found it a challenging experience.

David Jary

David Jary tackled the subject methodically, using masking fluid for his seagull and drawing on all his experience as watercolour artist and teacher.
