2011 Exhibition Rules

These rules will be strictly applied to all entries.

The rules may change slightly each year, but the physical presentation of each exhibition entry should always meet the following requirements.

1. All paintings must have a label with the artist's name, title of work, medium and price on the back of each exhibit. Pictures must be suitably presented. Any mounts used must be unmarked and glass cleaned of finger prints or dust specs. Watercolours should be behind glass, secured and sealed with adhesive tape to the rear of the frame. Work should be hung with D-RINGS AND TAUT CORD, placed one-third from the top of the painting. Central ring supports should not be used except on miniatures. Frames should not be damaged. Clip frames or damaged frames not accepted. Deep edge cancases only accepted unframed..

2. Up to 4 entries plus 4 miniatures may be submitted. Only 2 entries above 30" longest frame measurement. No more than 2 entries to be marked "Not for Sale"

.
3. Non-members may exhibit only by invitation of the Committee.

4. Sculptures, woodcarvings, drawings, pastels, oils, watercolours, gouache, acrylic, pencil, and other similar mediums are eligible, but the medium must be stated.

5. The Committee reserve the right to:
(a) select work if necessary according to the space available and the suitability of size of works submitted by ensuring that there is a fair representation of all exhibitors.
(b) incur a penalty for paintings entered but not submitted.
(c) reject work inadequately presented.

6. Only original works of the artist are acceptable. Copies of other artists' work from demonstrations, magazines, books etc. will not be admissible. To encourage new work they must not have been previously exhibited at our Summer Exhibitions and One Day Sales held in Totton.

7. The Society accepts no responsibility for loss or damage to exhibits, but every effort will be made to see that all entries are returned in the same condition as received. Insurance of work against damage is the responsibility of the exhibitor.

8. The positioning of the exhibits within the Exhibition is the sole responsibility of the Hanging Committee and works must not be moved by sitters-in or visitors. Great care and time is taken to display the work artistically, fairly, and safely.

9. Exhibitors will be charged 10% commission on all sales, 20% will be charged if exhibitors do not 'sit in'

10. No catalogues will be printed again this year. Labels to be printed from the information submitted on your entry form.
